Code of Conduct
<center>
We are committed to making HaxoGreen 2018 an inclusive and welcoming event for everyone. To accomplish this, we have one very important rule:
</center>

<center>
Be excellent to each other!
</center>

To help us achieve this excellency, we've set ground rules that define what kind of behaviour we consider to be unacceptable during HaxoGreen 2018. Setting these rules makes it crystal clear what we expect from the people attending our wonderful event. They also help us to facilitate an event where everyone can feel comfortable, included and can fully engage in everything we have to offer.

Everyone who visits HaxoGreen 2018 is required to abide by this code of conduct, both at the event and on any online channels. We will not tolerate harassment of participants or discriminatory behaviour of any form. Specifically:
* Do not engage in homophobic, racist, transphobic, ableist, sexist, or otherwise prejudiced behaviour.
* Do not harass people. Stalking, unconsented physical contact, or unwanted sexual attention is harassment. Dressing or acting in a certain way is not consent.
* HaxoGreen 2018 is a shared space, but every participant's personal space is their own. If you are asked to leave someone alone, or to leave their village, you must respect this.
* Some attendees may not want to be filmed or photographed. Always ask for permission first and respect their wishes.
* Aggression and elitism are not welcome — nobody should be afraid to ask questions.

Furthermore attendees with day-passes are kindly expected to leave the campsite latest at 23h/11pm.

If you break these rules, we may expel you from the event without a refund, and we may ban you from future events.

If you are being harassed or witness a breach of this code of conduct, you can get in touch with us in the following ways:
* Find us at the infodesk, NOC or bar.
* Find a member of event staff and let them know.
* Drop us an email at hello (at) haxogreen.lu. If you prefer to specifically speak to a certain gender, please specify this when you contact us.

Finally, HaxoGreen 2018 takes place in an area with beautiful nature all around. We expect everyone to treat the venue with the utmost care and respect. We will not tolerate any kind of vandalism against nature, this includes littering. We are guests in nature, and everyone is expected to act as such.
Camping Equipment
*a tent. Please read our Camping HowTo for more details. (You may want to bring a hammer to get those pegs into the ground)
*stable tent pegs (best use v-profile ones)
*a sleeping bag
*a mattress and a sleeping pad. Maybe a cushion.
*a drinking bottle. Drink more water - drinking not enough (water! not mate, not beer!) is the most common DoS-Attack at camps.
*a rescue blanket: One of those silvery blankets you find in first aid kits. They are very good at reflecting sunlight away from your computer monitor, so you'll be able to hack during the day. Most tents let in a *lot* of light and rescue blankets are one of the cheaper ways to fix that.
*a blanket to sit on and place your laptop on. You might not want to sit on a dew covered ground in the morning
*a cosy sun chair for hanging out
*chairs and tables
*penknife (preferably one of those swiss-made multitool thingies)
*a rope
*many trash bags for trash and water-safe storage.
*if you arrive for buildup or stay for teardown, it could be a good idea to bring a game that does not require power and/or network, especially if you travel with children or hackers who get bored fast.
*thongs (Badeschuhe) for the shower
*Do *not* forget your towel! Be a hoopy frood who really knows where their towel is.
*wet weather gear, or you could be trapped in your tent for a whole day.
*appropriate clothing: for warm and sunny, and for cold and rainy weather. It is better to have clothes you won't need than to need clothes you don't have. Although it is very warm during the day, it gets very cool in the evening. Sweaters/hoodies are recommended.
*chargers / power supplies for your laptop, tablets, phones etc
Think of your neighbors and share electric power to them! The power outlets provided are 230V AC Schuko (Type F, CEE 7/4)
*long ethernet cable. the next datenklo could be up to 50 meters (160 ft) away
*a bunch of network patch cables
*as many ethernet switches as you might need for your equipment and to share to neighbours. Don't forget the power supply.
*Equipment for 802.11a or 802.11n on 5 GHz, since 2.4GHz tends to get overcrowded. DO NOT bring your own APs. See Network#Rules
*a list of your trusted SSL keys (and check them beforehand!). See How_to_survive
*gadgets with all kind of blinky, geeky features as conversation pieces
*books. Also those you no longer need/want. Non-technical preferred. This is supposed to be your vacation, after all. Any eBook-Reader is a good choice too.
*your GPS. This will be great fun to play with and lets you use up-to-date OSM maps of the camping area.

A Note of Caution about electrical Equipment on Camps
One issue concerning hardware in tent environments is morning dew. However this affects not only desktop hardware, but any kind of electric contact or conductor exposed to humid air. Since desktop hardware is generally not very tightly enclosed, it is relatively sensitive to dew. Especially when it is not running for a while and therefore cold, it attracts dew like any other unheated object. To prevent your hardware from damage, you might want to bring some plastic bags to put your power plugs, desktop switches, or even computers inside and tie them up carefully.

A few tips for placing your equipment:
* don't place it in a poorly ventilated tent during a sunny day (too much heat; danger of fire)
* don't place your PC on the ground, even a beer crate keeps ground water out
* stand your pc upright, so the warm air raises through the box to the top and out of the back of the power supply.
* Your most problematic equipment will be power connectors. Make sure you ALWAYS place them above ground and out of the rain.
If any electrical equipment gets wet, DO NOT TOUCH IT AND KEEP A SAFE DISTANCE UNTIL POWER IS TURNED OFF AT THE CENTRAL FEED YOU GET YOUR POWER FROM!<br/>
If you are using your equipment when it gets wet, it may survive if you unplug it immediately. Most of the time electronics can get wet without a problem if there is no current flowing through it. It will probably work fine if you let it dry out entirely before powering it up again. (The same isn't necessarily true for mechanics, such as motors in a DVD-ROM.). You should also pull the battery (on desktop PC's, also pull the CMOS battery if possible).

Anyway, your biggest problem will be the really sunny days when it doesn't rain. 40+ Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) means that you have to make sure that your equipment gets good ventilations and check if your air filters and fans get clogged with dust. Bring spares... Besides, when it's that hot, you might want to shut down your computer and find a friendly neighboring village with a pool.

As long as you adhere to this basic rules, you will be just fine.

--- (European) ELECTRICIAN NOTE. See Power ---<br/>Prefer outdoor rated IP44+ rubber extension cables (marked RR or RN, RN [with Neoprene outer jacket] is better) with socket caps. Use cables with adequate conductor area (like 2.5mm^2). Remember that longer cables need to be thicker even for same current (Watts of equipment connected), to achive same voltage. Undervoltage can cause malfuntion and / or damage in electrical equipment. Think about getting <= 30mA Residual Current Device (Fehlerstrom-Schutzschalter, FI. 10 oder 30mA. For example this one. The thing advertised as helping to prevent electrocution) and place that to the beginning of your long main extension cord to the tent. If you wish, get inline surge protectors and overcurrent circuit breakers, also for the ethernet cable. Place those to where cables enter (or leave) your tent.

Things to Leave At Home
Must
*Your home directory and other data you don't want anyone else to see
*A microwave oven. It *may* disrupt wireless networks. A typical tent is not the ideal position to defend yourself against an angry mob of hackers. Also see next point.
*Very power hungry devices (like AirCon, electric grill or oven, electric water cooker, hairdryer, generally anything that creates lots of heat or cold). The power grid is always a problem on the camp. So please think twice if you really need all that luxury. Incandescent lamps have poor efficiency, consider bringing FL or LED lamps instead. See Power

Maybe
*Smartphone. These things are not very secure in the first place. We're not even talking about Bluetooth (urghs) and Wifi (ooooops) here. Unless of course you want to explore whats possible, in that case you should backup and then completely wipe the phone before coming to the camp (and reflash the firmware when coming home).
Things to Care About
*No open fire /charcoal powered BBQ outside the designated fire area. See FAQ#Open_Fire

*If you get too drunk, we have permanent marker pens.
*Drink more water. Dehydration is a common problem on this kind of events.
*The camp is a community event. If someone ask for a few minutes of your time to help at some task, please help.
*Keep to the hacker code of ethics!

.

Things to Check Beforehand
*If you have a new tent, build it at least once at home. When you arrive at the camp, it might be dark, raining or both. This makes putting up a tent a lot harder when you still have to read the manual!
*The same goes for sleeping bags, camping beds and everything else you might need to set up basic camp.
*If your planning to participate in a village, contact the organizers of that village as early as possible. That makes planning resources a lot easier.
*If you travel by train, bus, hitchhiking or by plane, you might want to pack your equipment a week or so before setting out to travel, to see if you haven't overpacked. If you can't carry it, you might have to reduce your equipment or maybe find someone close by who can take some pieces -> Hitchhiking
*Create a backup of your data (you did that already, right?) -> How_to_survive
*Think about doing a clean re-install of your computer to limit the amount of data that could get published to Wikileaks "by accident".
*Contact your friends you want to meet at. Especially if you arrive early, you might schedule a meeting beforehand. All that fancy technological wireless stuff like WhatsApp, Videocalls and so on might not work during the setup phase.
.

Things to Share / Lend
: see Location for locations on and around the campsite.

When?
When will the Camp take place?
: to
:: The opening event will be 19:00 on .
:: The closing event will be 16:00 on .

Can I come earlier?
: Yes, but not earlier than Monday 11:00 on in case you want to help with the build-up.
: If you're not willing to help with the build-up, we're asking you not to come to the camp ground before Wednesday 17:00 on

Are there opening hours?
: The camp will be open 24/4. Arrival during the night will be possible.
: The bar will probably close for the few hours in the early morning, when everybody is asleep.

Tickets
: see Tickets

Will we be required to wear my wristband?
: Yes, every participant is asked to wear the camp wristband. This will be enforced beginning July 26th, 10 am latest. You can get your wristband at the infodesk from . If you spot someone without a wristband please ask nicely where the wristband is and if they could please pick one up at the infodesk if they don't have one. Thanks!

Photos/Videos
: Ask everybody in the picture if they agree to be photographed or filmed.
: It follows that shots from the stage into the audience and long shots in the hackcenters, villages and the other public areas are not possible! Please note that we might ask photographers and film teams to leave, if they don't behave accordingly.

Cars and Camper Vans
Where can I park my car?
: There are a few parking sites in Dudelange see Parking, there will be NO parking on the campsite itself.

Is it OK to drive the car on the camp ground to unload stuff on arrival?
: Depends on when you arrive. People arriving later than Friday the 27th will probably not be allowed to drive on the camp ground. But there is a drop-off spot next to the camp ground and we plan to provide carts and similar means of transportation between the cash desk and the rest of the camp ground.

Is it ok to come with a campervan/caravan?
: No.

Open Fire
Are charcoal BBQs allowed?
: Please leave your Charcoal BBQ Grill at home and bring a gas BBQ instead. As mentioned in Power please don't bring an electric grill either.

Could we make a Camp Fire/bonfire (dt. Lagerfeuer) ?
: Yes, one camp fire at the official fire place will be lit.

Are camping stoves powered by ethyl alcohol allowed?
: We'll provide gas grills for you.

Are there smoking areas
Basically all enclosed public rooms are non smoking. This includes the hackcenter, lounge, toilets, showers, kitchen, noc, workshop room and talks room.

You are free to smoke in/at your tent. If the neighbors are annoyed by smoke drifting their way, try to find an arrangement for best smoke flow.

Dogs
Is it ok to bring my dog?
: Yes, but we have a few rules about this:
:: 1. DON'T let your dog mark their territory by peeing at tents or anywhere else on the camp ground.
:: 2. Make sure they don't get close to other attendees who might have problems with dogs. Be it by allergy or by phobia.
:: 3. Don't bring your dog if they have problems with people. Be it because they get scared in a crowd or by some odors.
: So if you do bring a dog and it causes any trouble then we will ask you to remove it from the camp site.

Flying objects
; Can I bring a sky lantern?
: No, it is forbidden by law to operate flying sky lanterns as they potentially cause fires.

Network
; see NOC

Will there be Gigabit Ethernet in the Datenklo?
: Yes. In the current network-planning each datenklo will have gigabit copper ports available for end-users.

Power
; see Power

Water
; see Water

How will drinking water be distributed?
: There will be water supply stations where you can get water from a tap. You can fill your water bottle at the water supply but you can't hook up a hose.

Food
Attention: Make sure to bring a plate, a knife, a fork and something to drink from as there will not be any provided.

What about food?
: We ask everybody to bring their own food. There are a few problems we had with providing food in the past:
:: 1. We bought the wrong food.
:: 2. We didn't buy enough of the right food.
:: 3. People brought less expensive food from abroad.
: See POIs for a list of shops which are around 10minutes away from the camp to get food.
: We also hope to sponsor a lot of food workshops to provide everybody with food :)

Waste Disposal
What should I do with my trash?
: Please avoid producing waste and trash! If you can't you can be very nice and take it with you when you leave or use one of the trash cans on the camp site. Getting rid of trash is not free for us so please don't plan to leave stuff behind when you leave. Especially if you bring furniture, building materials or electronic waste to the camp you need to take it with you at the end!

Social Media
Which hashtag is recommended for chaos camp-related tweets?
: Please use the hashtag #HaxoGreen to tag all things related to "HaxoGreen".
: Please do not post any information or pictures on other people anywhere online unless they agreed before. That also means, that you wont be able to e.g. publish a shot of a crowd, unless you blur the faces.

Preparations
How can I prepare for the camp?
: Besides making a backup of your data nice people compiled a guide with lots of ideas how to prepare yourself and your hardware for the camp. Have a look at How to survive.

What should I bring to the camp?
: Besides all the usual stuff you might bring to a camping trip or another hacker camp or meeting remember to bring long (>10m) power cables for outdoor use. And it is also a good idea to bring more female sockets than male sockets in all things plugs.
: See Things to bring for an extensive list.
: If you need some piece of equipment, but you cant afford it, or if you have a redundant piece of equipment that you would lend to someone, please consider publishing this here: Shared Equipment.

Are there opening hours?

: See Things_to_bring for an extensive list.
: If you need some piece of equipment, but you cant afford it, or if you have a redundant piece of equipment that you would lend to someone, please consider publishing this here: Shared_Equipment.
