The Sun newspaper reports that thousands of Japanese have been swindled in a scam in which they were sold Australia and British sheep and told they were poodles. That’s right….Australian sheep were sold for $1600AUD each as fashionable accessories in Japan. A real poodle costs as much as $4,000AUD in Japan.

The scam was uncovered when Japanese movie star Maiko Kawamaki went out on a talk show and wondered why her new pet would not bark or eat dog food. Another couple said they became suspicious when they took their “dog” to have its claws trimmed and were told it had hooves. Around 2,000 people were affected by the scam in Northern Japan where sheep are rare..so many did not know the difference.

As my grandmother always says, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is… including those fake Diesel shoes you bought in Thailand for $10. I could not help but wonder why it is that so many of us like to live in denial? Even when faced with insurmountable facts to the contrary…many of us would rather live in a fairy tale then in the land of reality.

Case in point my friend my friend Anna and her no ex-boyfriend Cal who used her for money to fund his drug abuse. She was so intent on thinking Cal was the love of her life and loved her that she failed to see what was really happening all around her. She is still coming to terms with what is happening…and only able to see the truth after being overseas for a few months and going into therapy. She did not want to see the user in Cal. To Anna, her sheep boyfriend looked like a cute poodle!
